We were given some info about sending packages here.
- Everything that is shipped here in a box will be opened and inspected by Georgian customs officials. They started this rule about a year or two ago due to a lot of drugs being shipped here. On a completely unrelated note – my Portland friends should look into mules.
- If the custom officials determine the content of the packages to be greater than 300 lari (about $180), I will have to pay taxes to get the package.
- If the weight of the box is more than 30kg (about 65 pounds), I will have to pay taxes.
- The customs officials determine, based on their mood that day, how much the taxes will be.
- The time frame can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months. The postal service is not very well established here.
I still have no idea on whom I will live with or where I will be housed. I think I will find out on Wednesday. Well, if not then, soon because we are going to our host families on Friday.
