Why?

You may be wondering why I picked this position.  There are several reasons.

  • I will be able to work with a local teacher so I will not be on my own but I can be if once I feel confident about what I am doing.  Yes, I am assuming that that is going to happen.
  • I work about 4-6 hours per day.
  • The government is paying for me to fly over.
  • The government will pay to fly me home, or anywhere of equal value, over winter break.
  • The government provides health coverage.
  • I get to live with a family and they provide me food.
  • I get paid a modest amount every month.
  • I read these posts by the person traveling Georgia looking for home stays.  Read the four entries from June.
  • The families grow a lot of their own food – lots of fresh veggies and fruit.
  • It just felt right.

  • So….old person’s question…what medical services are available in case you get sclerochi of the lacochee (non-descript ailment)?

    • ja

I am not exactly sure what services are available. We have medical insurance that is provided by the government and that is about all I know. I actually think that I will probably have better coverage than I do now being a VISTA for right now I just have health coverage. Notice the lack of the word insurance. It does not cover any preventative stuff. Thanks government!

Hi! I stumbled upon your blog site and love the quotes you have posted. Are you traveling to Georgia for the teach abroad program with Greenheart Travel? Looking forward to reading more of your work!

Yep, I am leave for Georgia at the end of the month. Just curious, how did you come upon my blog? It is very rare for someone outside my family and friends to look at my blog. Heck, it is rare for my family and friends to even look at my blog! ;)

Haha! They should be looking at your blog! It’s full of great writing!
I am the social media coordinator for Greenheart Travel and noticed quite a few clicks from the same link I wasn’t familiar with and it brought me to your post. You have traveled extensively! Do you mind if I link to your blog or do you prefer it be more for your family and friends?
Have very safe travels and great time in Georgia! I look forward to reading about your experience and living vicariously through your adventures. ;)

Hey Jill – Feel free to link to my blog. If my stories help people learn more about what the Teach in Georgia program is like, then I am glad to help. However, if people sign up because of my writing, I expect a cut! ;)

Thank you! You know, we actually do have a referral program – so if they mention your name/blog it could count! ;) Have such a wonderful time in Georgia!
