Since I am leaving Texas I have been thinking about what I will miss and what I won’t miss. Below is the list.
Will Miss
- Spending time with Linda and helping her where I can.
- Bear, Sprout and Blossom – the three cats.
- Free massages from a licensed therapist!
- The friends that I made here.
- Free pie thanks to my great friends at the pie shop!
- Living in the middle of no where; having no immediate neighbors.
- Having a year-long pass to get into any of the state parks.
- The local classic rock station REV FM – actually quite good. Luckily they stream their broadcast so I can listen online.
- HEB – a big grocery store in Texas. They make a lot of their own products, like other stores, but the thing that sets this one apart is that they actually use good ingredients and are cheaper then the name brand.
- Driving 20 miles to work with 95% of the trip going at 70 mph and no traffic. Also, no stop lights until I am a block from work.
- Small town community. Watched my first ever 4th of July parade the other day and it was great.
- Having Sprout and Blossom walk with me when I walk down the dirt road at night.
- Being able to see a lot of stars at night.
- Eating vegetables from the garden.
- There are a lot of Ranch Roads around here and it was fun going for drives on them. I liked to see the scenery of the hills and what people are doing on the land.
- Watching the deer eat grass about 30 feet outside my window.
- Living off of well water.
- Living off of solar power.
- Portobello Mushroom Burger at Hondo’s.
Won’t Miss
- Tornado warnings! Had 3 of them and it really sucks watching the radar and seeing if it is coming my way.
- Having to drive 20 miles to get groceries.
- Internet with a usage cap! Although it has made me appreciate having full access to high speed internet.
- Having to be outside to make calls on my cell phone. One positive thing is that I go for walks while I talk on the phone.
- Smelling like leather.
- NPR with a very limited broadcast selection (well, at least compared to Phoenix).
- Digging up poke-salad-annie plants! Although, I must say that I have done a good job for the only ones that I can find are the ones growing in the middle of the large burn piles that I cannot reach.
- Having to worry about walking into a snake while walking around the property.
That’s all I can come up with right now.
