Linda’s friend Shay took Linda and I to the Kerrville Folk Festival Thursday night. Shay went to it many a times back in the day (the festival started in ’72) but had not been back for a long time. Some friends of hers that she met when she used to go were playing Thursday night so she tooks us to see them.
The festival is located at a campground on a ranch so as we pulled up you could see tents and RVs everywhere. The venue we went to watch was located in a pavilion that probably seats about 300 people. It was a very nice setup.
Shortly after the performance started a storm started moving in. There was lightning and thunder all around but it looked like it was going to miss us. I went to the loo about 30 minutes into the performance and as soon as I got out it started to sprinkle. About a minute later it was pouring. I walked for a little bit but then realized that the storm was not going to let up so I jogged back to the pavilion to get out from the rain.
Needless to say I did not look at the weather ahead of time and did not bring any rain gear. I was just in jeans and a t-shirt, which, I must say was WAY over dressed compared to most of the crowd that was camping out.
Anyways, when I made it back I was drenched and the stage crew was scrambling to cover all of the equipment. The rain lasted about 30 minutes and we are guessing that about 3 inches fell. As soon as the rain started to let up the equipment came back out and they started playing again.
We heard someone mention that another storm was approaching so we did not stay too much longer for it was getting dark out and we did not want to drive home worrying about roads being flooded.
My clothes were still damp the next morning.
