Well, today I got to experience my first tornado warning. I am at the very end of tornado alley and apparently spring and fall are when they hit. Yeah!
I knew that there was a chance for a good storm this afternoon so I had the radar up at work and was watching it move in. I noticed a pink colored cell and realized that I have not seen pink before. Red yes, but not pink. Apparently pink means Extreme while red means Heavy. There is only one more color above pink so apparently it was a good storm.
Luckily it was quite a few miles north of us so nothing happened except for a few seconds of hail and about 10-20 minutes of hard rain.
For some reason I flashed back to the storm chasing shows I have watched and how I always thought that it would be cool to do that. Well, I still think it would be cool for they have all this gear to tell them where the storm is going and, as long as they are smart, can get out of harms way. I realized that all of the tourists on the street had no clue that there was a tornado warning issued and that is more scary to me. I do not even know if the town has a tornado warning.
Oh, and yes my cell phone died during lunch. It would be so nice if phones could come out with a better battery life meter that freaking bars. How about something that says I can handle a xx minute call or yy text messages before I run out of juice. I know it cannot be exact, but anything would be better. Instead, I leave home this morning with two bars and by lunch the phone is dead after talking on it for about 5 minutes and sending a couple text messages. Piece of crap!
I am thankful that nothing did happen today for it would have been nice to have it in case I needed to call for help.
I notice that our new phones seem to be pretty much done at 2 bars…
My hearing aid supposedly makes a clicking noise in my head when the battery starts to die – but that usually gives me about 5-10 seconds of warning. Not long enough!!
