Off the Grid

About a week and a half ago, we found out that our internet service, which is through the satellite, has a cap on how much you can do online.  Of course, we did not know that this cap existed so it took me a while to figure out why the speed was 128kb, or dial-up speed.  The internet provider cuts the speed down to dial-up speed if you reach 80% of your cap.  Once we figured out what was going on and I looked to see how close to the cap we were, it turned out to be 95%.  Ooops.

How did we get so close to the cap?  Well, it is safe to say that it was all me.  I started to watch TV shows online and apparently within a few days, I went a little overboard.  How do we get the speed back to normal?  Well, we have to bring our 30-day usage down below 70%.  So in about 10 days we have brought it down to just under 80%.  We are still on the dial-up speed but I am hoping to be back to normal by the end of the week.

I thought back to when I last had dial-up speed and it was my undergraduate years about 10 years ago. I can’t wait to get back to the future.
