Yesterday on npr’s marketplace, they had a story about the dating scene in China. They said that due to the young adults working so much, they have very little time for relationships, so parents and grandparents are stepping in to find a match. In Shanghai, hundreds of parents and grandparents gather in a park for ‘parents-matchmakers corner’. These parents are not arranging marriages, instead they ‘facilitate the process of their only children getting hitched and producing heirs’. There are also broker’s that are there representing lots of clients.
Right now there are more ladies then guys, so the guys can be picky about whom the shack up with. However, since more boys are being born right now, at some point the roles will reverse and the ladies will be able to pick and choose. So it looks like I am going at the right time! ;]
